The Aiwa SD-L 22 is a cassette deck for a mini stereo system of Aiwa from the year 1980. Here, the cassette is inserted as with an car radio. The device is very small. The width is only about
21cm. The equipment has are no special features: tape counter, Dolby NR, two microphone inputs (on the back).
The controls are relatively high-quality (apart from the recording level indicators and the tape counter). The front and side handles are made of aluminum.
Very practically the LED above the tape counter. It has several functions:
When the unit is switched on, it is lit green, it flashes green when the tape is running, it flashes red when the tape is being recorded or flashes green when the tape is running.
If you want to record, press the record button while inserting the cassette.
At the top of the lid there is a small flap, through which the audio heads can be cleaned without having to open the device.
The back of the Aiwa SD-L 22 cassette deck with the connectors.
Inside of the cassette deck, all components are placed very closely, which is not surprising with the overall size.
Here the cassette drive with the electronics has been removed from the lower half of the housing.
The cassette drive. One of a total of four drive belts is torn. The replacement is not quite as simple, because the entire drive has to be removed.
On the engine you can see the leftovers of the old drive belt. This reminded of its consistency rather to liquorice, which has become too warm.
The repaired device during the functional test. The recording and playback quality is quite good, only the built-in LED meters are probalbly not useful. By the way, the device is identical to the Wega Minimodul 205 C.
